Caring and Effective Teachers
The personal connection offered between teacher and student at Balance is core
If the real estate mantra is “location, location, location,” the educational equivalent is, “teachers, teachers, teachers.” Your ultimate goal: a growth experience for your child, designed and delivered by another human being. The personal connection offered between teacher and student at Balance is core to everything else. Great teachers count. Caring teachers and a safe environment are some of the most important factors for your child’s in-school academic success.
Holistic Curriculum and Instructions
Developing 21st Century Skills
If teachers are the master builders, curriculum and instruction are the blueprints. When choosing a school, examine the design for student learning.
At Balance we pride ourselves on three areas:
- The quality of curriculum (what is taught)
- The quality of instructional delivery (how it is taught)
- The quality of the teacher (who is teaching)
The world is changing, and so should schools. Balance’s curriculum and delivery reflects a world where creativity, initiation, collaboration, communication and authentic problem solving rule. We believe though that teaching “21st century skills” doesn’t mean that content from traditional disciplines isn’t relevant, only that authentic application is increasingly essential.
A school which measures and reports progress
We measure individual achievement and progress and effectively report on this
At Balance we measure student achievement and track progress in many different ways. However through before this tracking we always ask ourselves:
- What type of work is graded – assignments, tests, etc? If so, how often? A system of continual assessment is applied throughout the school from Year 1 upwards.
- What other ways do you measure progress or growth? Cambridge CEM and IGCSE’s.
- How often are parents updated on their child’s progress? Gallery Walks and PTC and part of our communication commitment to parents.
A school which aligns to the values of the family
A growing term in education is the hidden, or invisible, curriculum
The concept suggests that much of the learning that occurs in a school happens outside the stated curriculum. At Balance we strive in developing, not only educating, the whole child to be a well-rounded individual who can positively contribute to society, not only strong academic individuals, but students who have empathy for their surroundings and culture.
A school that has a good sense of community and culture
Aspires to a ‘get involved’ attitude
Each school has a distinct culture. At Balance, we hope to offer at balanced experience between being strong in sporting ethics and collaboration, while at the same time promoting creative thinking or problem solving. Depending on what is important we are sure that you will find your niche at Balance.
Unique opportunities
A world renowned academic program through Cambridge
We pride ourselves at Balance to offer a world renowned academic program through Cambridge, but also to offset this against a wide optional extra curricular activities program offered Monday to Thursday after the school program has concluded. We also have residential camps from Year 4 starting at an overnight trip through to a one week school trip. There are also Summer School Trips for Students together with other possible options as they become available.
